Brookeville House offers supportive care while maintaining the quality of life for our residents at the end of life by working closely with several Hospice teams in our area. Our Nurse Manager and trained staff work side-by-side with the hospice team to provide comfort care to the resident while also supporting the entire family.
Hospice is a specialized service providing holistic care and resources to those facing a life-limiting illness or condition. The hospice team includes a variety of healthcare professionals including doctors, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and volunteers. Here are some of the benefits of hospice care:
Comfort and Quality of Life: Hospice care is focused on managing pain and symptoms to ensure the patient’s comfort, dignity, and healthcare wishes are maintained. The hospice team will work directly with the healthcare professionals at Brookeville House, the resident, and their family to develop a personalized care plan that addresses physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Medical equipment such as oxygen therapy and specialized beds can also be provided by Hospice as needed to ensure comfort is maintained.
Family and Bereavement Support: Hospice also offers supportive care to the resident’s family including counseling, education, support groups, and emotional support. These services are offered beyond the loss of their loved one.
Spiritual Support: Spiritual counseling is offered to residents and their families in a variety of ways. Hospice works closely with members of the community including synagogues, churches and non-denominational organizations to provide emotional support to the resident and families no matter their spiritual needs.
Cost-effective care: Medicare Part A offers 100% coverage for hospice services. Medicaid and private insurance cover most or all the cost although some policies may have co-pays or maximums that apply.
Patient autonomy: Hospice care allows patients to remain in control of their healthcare decisions, even as their illness progresses. Hospice providers work closely with patients to ensure that their wishes are respected and their needs are met.
In conclusion, Brookeville House often works in tandem with hospice care providers to provide holistic care to our residents and their families which includes comfort and quality of life care in a home-based setting, family support, spiritual support, bereavement support, cost-effective care, and patient autonomy. Hospice care is a compassionate and holistic approach to end-of-life care that focuses on the patient’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
